Trino Zurita (Antequera, 1976) is one of Spain's most versatile cellists and is active both in the field of the modern and period cello. Due to his interest in the interpretive styles of the Romantic period, specifically in terms of the second half of the 19th century, it is remarkable his last release, 'Liszt: Complete cello and piano works' (2012) with the pianist Antonio Simón, that may also be regarded as the first real complete recording of Liszt´s pieces for cello. In the words of George Barth, 'this recording is opening up what really is an unprecedented approach to nineteenth-century performance'.
His interest in avant-garde creation has always played an important role in his career. He is a recognized specialist in contemporary music performance in its various forms of expression and has had numerous works specially written for him by composers such as Manuel Hidalgo, Jesús Villa-Rojo, Gabriel Brncic, Eneko Vadillo, Eduardo Polonio, Edson Zampronha, Diana Pérez Custodio, Tomás Marco, José García Román, José López-Montes, Juan de Dios García Aguilera and Oriol Saladrigues.
Trino Zurita began his cello studies at the age of eleven. He trained in Malaga with Antonio Campos and Urmas Tammik and furthered his studies at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow with Dmitri Miller. In the field of chamber music, he has studied under prestigious teachers such as Alexander Bonduriansky, Alexander Galkovsky, Dmitri Shebalin and Bretislav Nobotný.
In 2014, he attained a PhD from the Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio, Madrid, Spain. He is currently professor of cello at the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Málaga.
